95 Grand Am starter/wiring problem

I have a 95 grand am and the starter went out a couple weeks ago and fried a wire as well. The starter was replaced and the wirng fixed and it's still acting up but not all the time. it starts fine most of the time, but occasionally won't start or even try to start. We've tightend the wire, made sure it was grounded correctly, and if you wiggle and or yank on the wire and move it, that will get it to start eventually. Does anyone know what exactly could be causing this?

Re: 95 Grand Am starter/wiring problem

Sounds like maybe the wire splice isnt tight enough, alot of current runs through those wires.

Or thiers another short on up the wire. Might try and follow it up into the wiring harness and see if you find any other melted wires.
Older Cavaliers were bad about melting starter wires too.

It can be a PITA to find though, Good Luck.
And Welcome to AF!
