2001 Rodeo Opinions

My girlfriend is in the market for a new car...

We have found a 2001 Rodeo LS V6....Its in great shape...They are asking $8995 and it only has 51,000+ miles on it...

What I was wanting to know is some opinions of this Yr model from some owners before we started looking at it seriously..I hold owners opinions WAYY higher than those of Dealers....

So Anyone who owns one plz tell me anything you want to about this particular vehicle...

Thank You...

Re: 2001 Rodeo Opinions

a couple of FYI:

MPG is usually 16-20.

Only issues is that some of them burn oil (enuff to kill the engine), if you buy it check the oil at every fillup.

Keep the EGR and PCV clean (this will also, keep the oil usuage down).

the last know issues are bad intake manifold gaskets (very common). Parts costs about 50 bucks DYI or about 400-500 at the dealer.

You may have some factory warranty left depending on when the truck was first purchased (you can check the door sticker for when the truck was made as an indicator; Corp Isuzu may have this information; or CarFax). second owner 5yr 60k warranty.

So if the intake manifold is bad the dealer may replace for free.

i check mine every saturday. this has to be done. if you go a month without looking at it, you risk burning the engine up. this isn't to deter you. these engines are great. run well. it just takes a little user maintainance.

very easy to do in your driveway. this can really get away with being done once a year.

go into the dealer knowing this. with this knowledge you can either get it replaced free (from an un-associated mechanic!!!) or the price of the work taken off of the sales price.

you can tell this by a wierd revving/ idleing of the engine (watch the tach needle on the dash) and a sucking sound under the hood. go get the codes read (even if the CEL isn't showing on the dashboard--do it! the dealer can clear the light, but the codes store for a little longer in memory and can be read later)

Re: 2001 Rodeo Opinions

I love my 99 rodeo, same as what you are looking at. Like the others have stated, keep up on the oil. When I had my IMG replaced it only cost $290. Not a big deal at all.

Go out and test drive it and beat on it for a few miles. Look real close at everything and check under it for leaks. Check the coolant and everything under the hood.

The only downside is poor MPG, but that's the deal with every SUV.
