Rim and Tire Size for P11
I am rolling on some 18x7.5 rims with 225/40ZR18 and was wondering if you guys think it is too big...I totally feel the power being robbed by the size and weight...and also on the brakes....I want to get lighter rims or maybe go smaller...like 17"

imo 18's are too big for these compacts. sure they look great, but the tire profile is too little for street. you should be using a 35 profile tire, on your 18s. ...theyre like rubber bands. hehe
wheel weight does make a HUGE difference coming off the line....especially for AT drivers. if you want faster acceleration, you might wanna change gear ratios by going to a smaller than stock circumference tire setup with lighter wheels.

18x7.5 seems big... but what offset are they ??
If they are to heavy and you want to change i'd either go 18x7 with a 42mm offset or 17's the same size.

Ty,
I have 18x7 +43 on 225/40/18. that tire size is actually oversized. .8" to be exact, so almost a whole inch. I'm about to switch to some 18x7.5's soon. Probably gonna go with 225/35/18 this time which is the exact diameter as stock. I orginally had 215/35/18, WAY too small... About the weight issue, I wouldnt switch to a smaller wheel, it really makes no difference! Here's why... Sport Compact Car did a test (I can look up the issue tonight). They compared the same model wheels in three sizes, 16, 17, 18" They all weighed in within 1lb or less than each other. Of course the 16 and 17" will be lighter compared to 18, but you have more weight in the tires/air in the smaller ones! This is seriously the biggest myth there is! I would just go to the correct tire size (225/35/18) or switch to a lighter wheel if you want (I think you have those 3pc 5Zigens? heavy!! I have 3pc too) I wouldnt go to 17" to save weight, you wont save any in the long run becuase the tires are bigger and heavier and need more air... |

Surely rubber is lighter than alloy though?
![]() And I think the weight of the air in your tires is somewhat negligable compared to the weight of the alloys and the tires

Difference between a 17" and 18" alloy wheel of the same model is about 1 or 2 lbs less. Add the extra rubber and air and you are right back to the same weight.
This article was in Sport Compact Car and was run to clear up this life long myth... I'll find the magazine tonight so you non-believers can reference it ![]()
