Goodbye to my 85

Well I was setting at a redlight Friday morning when a guy driving his 98 ford with no brakes, so he could get to work to make the money to fix his brakes hit me from behind at about 35mph. He pushed me into a larger car which crunched it from both ends. My tercel only had 82k miles on it and I had just got both axles replaced, and new tires, it was the purfect car for running around town. Now his insurance has totaled the tercel and haven't made me an offer yet. I'm hearing rumbles of an offer of $800.00 and they keep the tercel. What a crock of huwee. I'm setting there minding my own business when this jurk hits me, totals my car, gives me whiplash, does $2000.00 damages to the car in front of me, and I'm the losser. And by the way he left our accident after receiving a ticket for failier to yeild to avoid an accident and drove his car with no brake and hit another car causing damage to their car and injuries to them trying to get somewhere else he needed to go. 20 years old and don't have a clue.

Re: Goodbye to my 85

This wasn't an accident, this was assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment at the very least. What he did is no different than waving a loaded gun around.
Unfortunately the only way you are going to get any real financial compensation is by suing for your injury.
Contact your state representatives and sponser a law that would have a proven unsafe vehicle impounded and the driver's license suspended for someone who knowingly drives an unsafe vehicle. The law wouldn't have prevented your losses, but may have saved the next guy. Afterall if he couldn't afford to maintain his vehicle in safe driving condition, he wouldn't be able to afford to get it out of impound or replace it easily and losing his license for a year or two might give him a clue.
