how long does it take for the ses light to go off because my gas cap was loose and could i do anything to reset it my self so it could go off

It will take as long as the next evap test cycle is run by the pcm, that depends on tank fuel level and number of drive cycles.

I would go to an auto store like AutoZone and get the codes read. I may just be the fact that you left the gas cap off. It may be something else. They can also turn off the light. If you get codes other than the cap get the actual number and post it here.
