97' 3.2 with 4L30E/auto. Slow/Harsh downshifts when coming to a stop

97' 3.2 with 4L30E/auto. Slow/Harsh downshifts when coming to a stop.

I notice slight shuddering/thuds when coming to a hard stop from speed, and they seem to come from the tranny downshifting back from 4th to 1st but the sounds are louder and harsher now than ever before.

Any ideas on whether the 4l30e downshifts one at a time- (4th-to-3rd-to-2nd-to-1st)
or is it capable of going from 4th to 1st when coming to a full stop?

Any other thoughts relating to this, answers to questions I may not have even asked would be much appreciated.
