95 Neon Dying Out Codes 24 and 31

Well it all started out the other day i was coming home and out of nowhere the car just died!! It would nopt start at all but 5 minutes later it fired right back up and i drove another 5km's and then it died again this time not getting as lucky, wouldn't fire back up. So i came home and without checking the codes i replaced the crank sensor and then i put a MSD blaster coil pack on it! seemed fine until today when it started stalling again and running really rough, it idles prefect but it won't respond to the throtle at all insted it just starts poping and backfiring, the only way i can drive it is if i take it really easy on the throtle until i get past 4000 rpm then it works great. The only problem is that i have to drive it unreasonably hard just so it runs ok. It's bringing up codes 24 and 31 i've swaped throtle bodies and it still brings up code 24 so any help would be greatly apreciated thanks

You didn't need to change your TB, just the Throttle position sensor for the code 24. Maybe check the wiring on it. Did you clear the codes after you swapped tb's?

For the code 31, make sure your gas cap is on correctly. If it is, then you may have to replace the solenoid and/or inspect all your hoses and connections.

Re: 95 Neon Dying Out Codes 24 and 31

Yah i've cleared the codes everytime i try something else to it, the thing is i clear the codes and then before i even try and start the car i check to make sure that they cleared and there not clearing still brings up 24, 31. Would a problem with the throtle position sensor cause my car to not downshift at all, like i can drop it down a gear or two and the only thing that happens is the rpm come up and then it seems to just pull it self along and every couple seconds it will downshift for a split second and then just pull itself along again?

Then you are not clearing them correctly. How are you clearing the codes?

Re: 95 Neon Dying Out Codes 24 and 31

Well i'm pulling the fuel pump fuse in the power distribution box, but anyways i've got it fixed except the code 31, i swapped my throtle body off for one off of an auto and i put all my sensors in it. It turned out to be broken wires going to the throtle position sensor re-wired the plug and now it works great.

So many people overlook something like the wires going bad. With sensors, that is usually the first thing to check then maybe clean the sensor and make sure it is seated correctly.
