Is it possible to order a new Ranger from Ford with a V8?

Re: V8 Ranger

They don't offer one for the Ranger. You may be able to have one built up like that, if there is enough room, but it doesn't look like it's going to be from Ford. MM.

Re: V8 Ranger

That sucks. The 4.0 is too flat for me, and it's not even fuel efficient. 13 mpg city, give me a break. I absolutely love the way the F150 accelerates, but it's just too big a vehicle for me.

Re: V8 Ranger

Ford was planning on coming out with an Explorer Sport-Trac with a 4.6 Liter V-8, but now with Ford cutting back, I don't see that happening. That would've been almost the size you're looking for. I just hope they don't plan on axing the Ranger in the future. They say a 4.0 is a decent motor (I have a 2.9) and you can get a few aftermarket parts for it to up the horses.

Re: V8 Ranger

Ford did in fact come out with a V8 Sport Trac. It's the 2007 model and they are available now. Of course the ol' 5.0 has gone away, so as you mentioned it's just the 4.6, but I think that the 4.6 is a better engine anyway. It's pretty much the same 4.6 that they've been using in the Explorer/Mountaineer platform for the last couple of years. I don't know the specs on it past that though. MM.

Re: V8 Ranger

Sorry, my mistake. Might have been some hi-performance version I heard about.

Re: V8 Ranger

I suggest you build your own v8 ranger. See rangerpowersports.com for a complete writeup on how to do it, all the technical forums you want and everything you want, or dont want to know about the ranger. Man I love those trucks.
I plan to put a sb chevy in mine.

I don't know if I can agree that the 4.6L is a better engine than the 5.0L H.O. The 5.0L stock was a torque minded engine - which is what bigger cars need to move quickly. The 4.6L is lacking in torque because of the OHC design. I won't disagree that it's a good running motor, I just don't know what they were thinking. OHC is wonderful in small cars with 4 cylinders, where all of that torque is not required. I smoked the living crap out of a 4.6L V8 in a Thunder Bird with my 88' 2.9L V6 if that says anything. The 2.9L has been modded quite a bit, but it probably puts out the same amount of torque or better. I'm pretty certain that the 4.6L has better horse power figures, but horsepower doesn't mean jack when you get on the strips. I would definately take a 5.0L H.O. over a 4.6L anytime, anyday.

Just my opinion though,
Pete
