Motor, trans, mounts, brain, time, time, time, time, time, I don't think anyone is going to tell you what wire goes were though. too hard on a website. there is a really good write up on the org but it is for 2000 covert to an eco. won't help too much

Re: Im Going To Put An 2.2 Ecotec In A 93 Cav Just Tell Me Everything Im Going To Need
I know this probably sounds noob, (which I am) but what's the differance between an eco and a regular 2.2? I have an eco 2.2 in my 03 cavi, but I was just wondering what the difference is. I'm guessing eco has better gas milage but less performance, and the regular would be reversed?

Re: Im Going To Put An 2.2 Ecotec In A 93 Cav Just Tell Me Everything Im Going To Need
The non EcoTech 2.2 is the old OHV,cam in block engine that started life back in 1981 as a carbureted 1.8 liter gutless slug.GM bragged that it had more specific HP per liter than even the vaunted Corvette of the day (not saying much as 305s and 350s were putting out less than 200 hp).It wasnt long before GM issued fuel injection to perk it up (Pontiac abandoned it for a 1.8 OHC engine from Brazil),and later increased displacement to 2.0 liters and then 2.2.The engine reached its pinnacle in 1994 when it picked up 10 horsepower and flow in the head was optimized. The 3rd generation GM J-body that started for 1995 didnt alter the engine much at all.In anticipation of the coming Cobalt and Saturn ION cars,GM issued the ECOTEC DOHC engine in existing Cavaliers and Sunfires. This was a replacement for both the old "junkyard" 2.2 OHV engine and the cranky "Quad 4".GM in an effort to slim its engine families down, didnt need 3 engines that 1 could do the job of.
The 2.2 OHV engine even found its way into the resdesigned 1994 Chevy S10 and GMC Sonoma mini pickups.Yet another slimming move on GMs part, the demise of the age old "Iron Duke"2.5 Pontiac engine led GM to installing Cavalier engines in pickups.Actually,it was a better choice. As they seemed to run smoother, more economically, and longer than the old-as-sin 2.5 that actually started life as the 4 cylinder base engine for the 1962 Chevy II compact. Also used in boat applications, this engine continued on for many years (it was dropped in Novas after 1969),until it was given a Pontiac re-do (much like the old 1961-1963 Tempest "Trophy 4") and reappeared in Pontiac Astre wagons and base Ventura compacts. This engine was also the basis for the 1979 GM X-cars that led GMs forray into compact FWD.The J car program was to be an offshoot of the X car program, however using as few components as possible (the THM125 trans was one used),as the J cars were never meant to be as large as the "compact" X cars, thus needing smaller/lighter engines.Following GM practice at the time,an OHV design was used for the engine as opposed to Ford's Escort 1.6 OHC and Chryslers "Trans 4" 2.2.To this day,GM prefers pushrod engines over OHC designs in many applications (small and large block V8s for example),while the rest of the world moves along with advanced variable timed OHC engines. |

Re: Im Going To Put An 2.2 Ecotec In A 93 Cav Just Tell Me Everything Im Going To Need
in english the 2.2 (or 2200) won't last near as long nor put out the hp as the eco. plus the eco be built up better and safer
