Welp guys i knew i needed to rebuild the engine because i heard a clanking of metal on the right side and could tell it was something in valve tran so yesterday i finally took it apart and walla a rocker had completly slitped off...soo i put it back together and started up it was gone drove it around and it came back danmit i thaught it slipted again took it apart today and ahh!!! one rod has sucked into the engine (did not blow thanks god) and 15 of the 16 rockers are loose soo this weekend im pulling the engine out and rebuilding now im looking for a good kit...im also planning to bore and stroke it can anyone tell me whats the biggest bore and stroke i can get and then wheres a good kit i can buy to go with that bore and stroke size also how much improvement in horses should i expect to see with a bore and stroke? thanks sorry for all the questions ill show you guys some pictures tommorow..

The engine is a 68 400ci from a bonneville...that might help a little

you want to bore and stroke it and still use it as an everyday driver lol, i dunno about the 400, but a friend of mine made a 383 stroker for his truck, now it costs him $100 in gas to go 100 miles lol, with gas prices the way they are i'm happy with my 301 for now, i even put off putting in the 350 lol

the push rod thing sucks, i hate being forced to do work on my car, it's so much nicer when your doing it because you actually want to.

i dont mean im going to drive it everyday i just mean if i want to drive it on the road a lot that it want put anywhere and tear on the high performance parts.

First things first. Get Jim Hand's book "How to Build Max-performance Pontiac V8s" by SA Designs. It's the latest study of the old Injun, and is quite accurate and CURRENT. It will answer most of your specific questions.

There are a couple of stroker kits on the market. We sell a lot of the Eagle. Makes a "461" out of a .030" over 400. Lots of info out there, some "good", some not so good...

There are also a couple of really good Pontiac-specific websites where you can get all the free info you need.

We have several of these (strokers) out there well over 600 horsepower on 93 octane fuel. Be warned, NOT cheap to build such a monster. If 500 is plenty, they're quite reasonable to build.

Lastly, ignore the buzzing in your ear about "Yo gotta use a Chevy. A Pontiac won't run and it will blow up..." NOT! One of our guys goes 10.50s all week on 93 octane in a true "street" '70 Firebird. Well over 3,000 lbs., it has made over 100 1/4 mile and nearly as many 1/8 mile passes, as well as Friday night trips to Dairy Queen... Still out there terrorizing ricers!
