lt1 problems

I was looking to get into a lt1, but they seem to have a lot of problems, my friend just bought one with 62k on it and the engine needs rebuilt, one that I looked at had a new engine in it because the block cracked and it only had 60k on it, my grandpa said that they "pieces of crap", I was wondering if they are good cars or always ahve problems, because I definatley like them but me being in college I don't have a lot of money to spend on repairs, I was also wondering if it would be worth it to save up for a ls1, if they are better motors

Re: lt1 problems

Honestly, with these cars since gen. 1 the motor is as good as the person who maintains it and drives it usually. If you dont change oil, overheat it due to lack of maintenance, and beat on it in general racing every car on the road then they wont last...none of them will. I had an LT1 with over 100k that ran like new. I was in college when I drove it and it was one of the most reliable cars Ive had in college. As long as its maintained it should be fine. Though the LS1 would be a better investment in my opinion if you can manage saving up for one of them. A little more research and development, newer design, etc.

Re: lt1 problems

as creeping death said, it is all about how the car treated previously..

l say, to buy an LT1 over 75k miles is like playing casino game. ( mostly people lose)

l still own an LT1 and if l would drive that car like a normal person l mean like a grand ma. my car would still be running like the first day l got the car. l just steeped on gas so much.. l dont race all the time.. but l drive fast.. l havent gotten any ticket and l have been driving my LT1 over 100 miles an hour if in front of me is empty and also when the lights turns green, l step on gas like l am racing.. this is the way l drive but it costed me. and l had alot of problems.. you never know how the previous owner drove that car. but asl l said, it is like playing casino game. ( generallay people lose)

LS1s are much much more relailable than LT1s

Re: lt1 problems

Upon reading this, it looked like I was talking about you erdal...i wasn't. Sorry if I came off like I was talking smack about your driving habits :-p I was just saying in general, beating on a car it wont last. Most people who just rag on their car without a care in the world dont come on message boards trying to fix/maintain their vehicles :-)

Re: lt1 problems

So far the LT1 that I bought about a month ago is running fine, but like you guys were sayin it depends on who owned it last, with the way I drive I'll probably end up beating the crap outta mine

Oh and also before you buy make sure to try and get some kind of history report on the car, carfax, etc... it really helps out when figuring out how well the car was treated..
