Question help me, im new!

OK, I have a 90 Celica. When I first got it, if it was sitting for a long time It would take a couple tries to start it up the first time, then it would be fine until it sat for a while again. It has been sitting for about 6 weeks and it started up fine the first time, but I have been driving it for about a week now and every morning it is not starting up. When it finally does start up, I can drive it for the rest of the day fine. What happens when i try to start it is it idles really low, and then as soon as I hit the gas, it stalls. Finally after a few tries I will hit the gas and it will rev up to 4000, and I can finally get it going. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try a fuel filter, they are often overlooked.

in all honesty you probably dont need to change your fiel filter, they never really need to be replaced, but it is still a thoghtfull idea

Re: help me, im new!

Check the air intake to make sure a critter didn't try to take up residence.
Check cap, rotor, wires, and plugs.
How old is your tank of gas? Have you put some fresh gas in since you started driving the car again?
Check the valve adjustment.
Check the oil level.
Look for damage caused by a critter (ie. chewed vacuum lines, wiring)

Re: help me, im new!

had similar issues with a 91 celica...hard starting in the cold, wet, humidity; crummy acceleration. replaced the plugs, wires, distributor, rotor, fuel filter, O2 sensor, pulled the fuel rail and cleaned, pulled the air intake and cleaned still acted up in inclement weather. turned out it was a cracked coil unit, durn thing had a small crack on the underside; when it was warm enough to keep condensation off the internals, car ran like a champ, ran great when it warmed up, too. was a real PITA to start and run otherwise.
