Easy Fix For Stuck Key

The key on my 2000 focus would ocasionally stick in the ignition and could not get out. The problem lies with the shifter or shift lock relay on the back of the ignition cylinder inside the steering column. All you have to do is disarm this relay. This is done by snipping the signal wire from the shifter to the relay. It can be found under the dash coming out of the steering column. It is black with a white stripe. Say goodbuy to your stuck ignition key problem!!!!
the only down side is your car no longer dummy proof and you will be able to take the key out of the ignition while car is still in gear. So remember to put in PARK!

Re: Easy Fix For Stuck Key

Correction: It's the BLACK with YELLOW strip wire you want to cut. Or at least that's what it is on the 2000 Focus SE Automatic.

Re: Easy Fix For Stuck Key

Could this same relay also cause the Key to not turn. That seems to happen every once in awhile and no amount of moving the steering wheell or playng with the gear shift can get the key to turn. However, when it finally goes, it works fine, until next time.
