oil change schedule
Hello to all,
I keep hearing over the radio about BMW's that only need oil changes once per year/annually. So I was wondering..... assuming I use Mobil 1 synthetic or whatever brand synthetic can be bought can I get away changing my Camary 89' oil once per year? What are your thoughts. Now I'm not really planning on doing this but I was just wondering. Just trying to keep as much money in my pocket as possible. Thanks for any replies, rimfire,22 |

Re: oil change schedule
It is possible, but don't do it without monitoring the oil quality while you are doing this for the first time, at least. Periodically send an oil sample in for analysis. Read about this and other oil-related topics here:

Re: oil change schedule
....and use an upgrade high quality filter like an AMSoil filter....if you "do" instead of "wonder".

Re: oil change schedule
Brian, RIP,
Thanks for your replies. This is something I'n not planning on in reality of doing for my Camary. I was just wondering. In the past I use to use synthetic oil exclusively and had it changes at every oil change interval/schedule regardless how much Mobil 1 cost at that time. In the future I might, might think of just skipping one in the future but I'm afraid I might do the engine wrong. Using Mobil 1 keeps my internals cleaner and it appears the oil stays cleaner longer. My testimonial from the past when I had my Honda Civic. Now that I've inheriated this car back from my moms passing everything based on my wallet. Just had new tires put on and now I need to pay attention to the brakes and then engine services. Again many thanks for your replies.rimfire,22

Re: oil change schedule
If you go to an extended OCI, change the filter every 5k miles or so and add enough fresh oil to make up for the lost oil. Don't expect that an expensive oil filter will last throughout a long OCI without needing to be changed. Don't take chances with your filter.

Re: oil change schedule
Brian,
I just had a service on my 89' Camary to get the brakes in to good service. It was a good thing I had it cuz the discs were on the edge! Besides the brake fluid was cloudy so no choice. In addition I need to get it to pass the mandated "Brake and Light" inspection this coming weekend. Now all I need to get replaced is the brake lines because they told me they're starting to leak. No problem I'm almost there. :-) When this is finally done I can have the "timing belt" and the regular service handled and then I'm back on track! All I need is the money to get it done. I estimate about 800 bucks for this errvice. With any hope I can get away with just a thousand bucks. ![]() One thing I noticed about this Toyota dealership. It was BIG and the place was extremly CLEAN and NEAT!!!! :-) I mean WOW!!! This place looked impressive to say the least. Longo Toyota's got my money/business for being such and impressive and professional staff. They don't BS me like some others. In addition they also offer Mobil 1 synthetic oil as part of the normal service in addition to using the standard Toyota motor oil. Again very impressive.:-) I can't say enough about these guys! :-) Anyone in the west side of Los Angeles I recommend you try these people. You will not be dissapointed. ![]() ![]() rimfire,22
