Angry integrated dvd player in 2002 Venture

Recently, I was having trouble with some DVDs in my integrated DVD player (sometimes the player just wouldn't play the DVD) so I used a CD disk cleaner in both the CD player and the DVD player and now the DVD player can't read any DVDs. The CD player still works fine. Any suggestions on how to get my DVD player to work again?

Was this a cleaner where you stick in a "cleaning" disk? Isn't a DVD and a CD different thicknesses? Perhaps you have damaged the laser lens.

I've heard you should never use those type of cleaners where you stick in a disk.....you might remove the DVD player, open it up and inspect the lens on the laser for damage.....good luck, glen

The DVD player is designed to also play music CDs also so I wouldn't think that the thickness would matter.

Good point...forgot about that since I've never had a need to play a CD on it in my Pontiac.

I'm assuming you're getting power - you can hear it "winding up" the disc? You might still pull the player and take the cover off and inspect the lens. Maybe it just has some lint or something on it. Sorry I don't know more....Glen

Re: integrated dvd player in 2002 Venture

assuming your dvd player is also the same as your cd player here, the lens on your CD/DVD player is wack.
when a DVD is being played, there is a different intenisty of beam that is used from the Laser on a DVD than there is a CD.

if you know electronics, you can tear apart the DVD player and adjust the P.O.T. on the laser lens, but this is only a temp. fix.

bottom line, you need a new DVD player.

Sony Playstation 2's are the same way. the lens can wear out resulting in not being able to play dvd based games or movies. however - audio cd's work just fine.
