Camaro 350 SB is dying after 45 seconds - due to Edelbrock carb needing adjustment?

We just got my '70 Camaro, 350 SB to start for the first time since buying it. However, after it runs for ~45 seconds it wants to die and eventually does, unless I gun it. I suspect the Edelbrock 1405, manual choke, carburetor needs further adjusting.

Does anyone know how to adjust one of these or know where I can find instructions? There are 2 screws on the front-side (for air/fuel mixture adjusting?), as well as the accelerator adjustment screw on the driver side. Any suggestions on how to adjust these? The guy that helped get it running "baselined" the adjustment screws, but is unfamiliar with Edelbrock carbs.

Also, the butterfly is being held open ~ a quarter inch by a wire. How is the butterfly supposed to be connected? Since it is staying open a quarter inch the whole time, could this be causing it to eventually die?

yeah, i believe so, you said it's a manual choke, you are openeing it?

Since my initial post, I've learned that the choke needs to be full open, not a quarter open. This helpsd with startup, but I've still had to adjust the throttle cable to rev at ~1400-1500 to keep it from dying. I've got some pointers from a Camaro guy which I plan to try soon to try and lower the rpm's. I'll report back any progress. If anyone has other ideas, please post. Thanks.

Mabey its the fuel pump? Why do you think its dieing? Sorry to bump a old topic

Ended up getting a vacuum gauge and adjusting the air/fuel mixture screws on the carb for max vacuum. Then we adjusted the timing to ~17-18". Did this a couple times and adjusted the idle down each time. Rpms are now at 900 - a lot better than the 1500 we had to keep it running earlier. The dying problem is gone, though - it would probably run until the tank ran dry. Starting can be a little tricky, but that's what I'm working on now. It will start, but needs a lot of pedal action. Main point - it doesn't die anymore once the timing was adjusted and the air/fuel mixture adjusted. We had to adjust the timing as high as we did because he have a good-sized cam.
