2000 Ranger

Transmission Problem????

When I accelerate the engine or transmission seems to jump forward a bit usually notice it in lower gears.

Any ideas for the problem.

Had it in once but the dealer didn't seem to fix the problem.

Re: Transmisson/Engine Problem ???

The 2000 Ranger is a 4 cyl., 2 wheel drive.

Yes it takes a second or two to advance speed but I don't hear a big clunk. When I accelerate from a stop position, the engine/transmission seems to jump ahead a bit almost like the transmission is skipping. You can feel the jolt forward.....it's been doing this for months and doesn't appear to be getting worse. You can feel the hesitation then within a few seconds you feel the slight jolt and the truck accelerates.

Re: 2000 Ranger

could be transmition or just the tourqe converter going bad. is your trans fluid level at the full mark? have you had fluid/ filter changed at all? i'd have a trans shop look at it.if you never changed the fluid the filter could be clogged. usually when you have trans problems, it's time to rebuild it.

Re: 2000 Ranger

If you have a manual transmission, I would guess the motor and tranny mounts are shot. I recently replaced them on a '95 .... looks easier than it is.

BTW, replacement motor mounts from AdvanceAuto would not quite fit into the space ... close but no cigar. I don't know if it was a wrong stock selection or what. Ones from AutoZone went in ... but a surprisingly big job!
