Unhappy Fuel Cut-off / won't run for long

Hi,

my wife was driving our swift and she hit a pot hole pretty hard. Since then it starts no problem but aftr driving for about 50 yards the power dies and then after a while it returns for a few seconds then dies again - it continues to do this. I'm wondering whether hitting the hole (jarring the engine) caused the fuekl cut-off valve to kick in allowing only enought ac tually to start the engine and run on tickover - does anyone know about this - does this happen? where is the cut-off located and can you by-pass it - want to sell the car but can't with this problem?

regards

Richard
