97 Hyundai Tiburon FX questions

I bought a 97 Tib about a year ago for one grand. Had to put new belts in a went and got it painted after it had been spray painted and keyed. Ne ways was wanting to boost the power on it so people here in Washington can see that tibirions do have power. I put on a magna flow muffler and that's about all i've done to it. Any suggestions on what to buy and brands of stuff to increase the horse power. Right now i'm going to college and getting an extra thousand bucks a quarter from financial aid so have some money to spend. Or would it be wiser to sell off the car and buy a newer tibiron. Also painted the car orange which some like and some don't but ne ways ne ideas on how to make it stand out more. Mufflers got an okay sound and recently took off the recognator to help increase the sound and it did somewhat. Please let me know what you think just really getting into cars as im 19 with my first car i bought and trying to make it look cool. Thanks

Last question to was wondering if revving up the engine was bad for it as i said im not really knowlegable with stuff like this but was curious if so.

What are your goals with the car... "realisticly" please... And I'm not talking cosmetic goals!

Well, I think you should take a look at the Stickys in the main section. They have put alot of time and effort into helping questions like your get answerd.

Re: 97 Hyundai Tiburon FX questions

i thin kyou should trade it in for a 3rd gen one but thats just cause i'm not a big fan of the older ones but if you like it keep it

most peopel start off with intake headers exhaust but what you do to it is up to you

Re: 97 Hyundai Tiburon FX questions

Okay, first, are you wanting to keep it naturally aspirited or do you want to use forced induction?

First, you're gonna wanna have the tranny checked out. It may just need a new clutch, or it could be needing to be rebuilt. If that's the case, you might just wanna buy a used, low mileage tranny. While at it, a lightweight flyweel would be good, as well as a Short Throw Shifter.

If you're wanting to keep it natural, remove the restrictive stock airbox and get a AEM Cold air intake. Then, try to get a Big Bore Throttle Body, and, if you've got the $$$, get a AirRam intake manifold. Next, you'll want some good aftermarket headers. You'd also want to have a custom cat back exhaust made, with 2.5" piping, since there are practically no exhausts for 1st and 2nd gen Tiburons. Light weight pulleys would also add a little power.

Re: 97 Hyundai Tiburon FX questions

I know everyone's going to think im a wuse but the car is an automatic. I did order OBX headers and an AEM intake and am going to go get the transmission fixed. I eventually will probably put a turbo in the car but am trying to avoid doing that right now. Also doing some body work with some under the hood work. Need to find a good carbon fiber hood also for the car if anyone knows of were i can get one. And put a magna flow exhaust system. Thanks for the help. I'll post pictures after i put the header and intake on the car

dont get BBTB unless you are going all the way a new manifold like Mister_Sinister said or port and polish the stock one and get the head ported

Re: 97 Hyundai Tiburon FX questions

you can get the airram or keep the stock manifold but remember when your doing this you can only flow as much air as the smallest opening so if you CAI and manifold and throttle body and do nothing with the head your wasting money

Re: 97 Hyundai Tiburon FX questions

www.flyryde.com

They have 3 hoods for sale on their site.

Anyways, the AirRam is the way to go. As for the head, all you can do is have a machine shop port and polish it. As for the headers, they're decent. Not the best, but at least better than stock.
