Question EVAP problem

Hello,

Just had my 98 Windstar serviced for some steering problems and when I got it back the SES light was on..diagnostic code is P1451 EVAP control system canister solenoid circuit malfunction. Could someone tell me where this is located on the van and if it could be from something the shop did while servicing it. This was the only code that came back and the mechanic said it was "in the computer for a while." Now it will not stay cleared, the light comes right back on. The light has never come on before and I've had this van for a year. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: EVAP problem

On my '96 3.8L windstar, the evap solonoid is located on the firewall, on the driver's side......behind the top of the driver's side of the upper intake manifold.

The solonoid that is mounted to the back of the driver's side of the upper intake manifold is for the EGR system.

Both of these solonoids get their vaccum source from the PCV vaccum line that goes from the top of the upper intake manifold, driver's side, down to the PCV valve in the driver's side of the rear valve cover.

There is an electrical connection, and 2 vaccum connections.
There is also a little "cap" that contains a felt/foam filter.
Check the vaccum connections and electrical connections.
It is also possible that the filter inside that "cap" may be clogged, which would cause the solonoid to not work properly.
Also, verify that the vaccum line to the evap. canistor (located under the car, next to the fuel filter) is intact at both ends.
If all else fails, you can replace the solonoid.
