starting issues

i have a 88 crx si with a 90 d16y8 motor. i also swapped the guages. i have mose of the guages working except fuel guage and highbeam indicator. my engine light is on code 17, speed sensor. could these things be related? also i just put new plug wires and a new rotor on and now it won't run. it starts sometimes but stalles out rightaway, or if it does run it stalls as soon as i push the peddle a bit. any help would be great. thanks...

Re: starting issues

I'm assuming that your speedometer isn't working if you're getting code 17. This code is the speedometer cable. It goes from the back of the speedo gauge down to the transmission. Make sure it is plugged in on both ends. If it is plugged in and still not working then you should replace it. This shouldn't be related at all to your starting problem.

Re: starting issues

Why don't you just do a ZC or B16 swap instead of a rebuild? Maybe your goals are different, but I would rather do a good JDM swap instead of doing anything to a D series motor

Re: starting issues

I would love to do any kind of swap, b16, b18, but i live in Puerto Vallarta mexico and finding any engine or people who know what they are doing is impossible. The parts just are not available to me here.

Re: starting issues

I have a 89 civic std that was giving me the same problem when i swapped for an SI cluster. I immediately was getting code 17. I fixed the engine light by swapping my speedo assembly with my old one from my old cluster with the original miles. It took the CE light right away. I dont know about your starting issues however...is the car cranking?
