Question Woodruff key

I need to find where I can get a woodruff key for a 95 metro 4cyl.
Any help would be appreciated, none of the autoparts stores that I've looked in have the part, either listed or as available.

Re: Woodruff key

A dealer should be able to get that for you or if you know the dimensions off the crankshaft you can order one from McMaster Carr.

Re: Woodruff key

if not look up your local Fastenal, or Grainger should have them and if that doesn't work try a local machine shop they can usually machine one pretty cheap but try the dealer or aftermarket first. good luck

Re: Woodruff key

I replaced my key a few months back. Any hardward store should have it (I bought mine in a 2 pack from home depot)

Exclamation Re: Woodruff key

Ok, I have everything taken apart now, just can't get at the woodruff key, I could use some suggestions on how to do that.
Already tried reattaching the pulley to pull it loose but that did not work.

Also This car has none of the timing markings that I've seen on this site at all, the top timing gear just has to lines opposite of each other, and only a pin sticking out of the bottom one. Any suggestions on timing this would be greatly appreciated.

I already know where I can get the key, I just cannot get the timing belt sprocket off. Nor do I know how to time the vehicle once I fix it....

Re: Woodruff key

To time the engine will require a timing gun, a torque wrench and a piece of wire. You need to jumper two terminals to make sure the ECM is bypassed. Look under the hood at the diagrams there, it will show you which terminals to jumper. The harness with the terminals is on the firewall just behind the strut. It has a rubber boot that removed will reveal the terminals.

After you do this, clip the sensor over the number 1 spark plug wire, hook up to the battery, and point the gun at the crank pulley, there is a 0 to 20 degree scale on the timing belt cover. The light will strobe, and you will be able to read where the timing is set at, by observing the white mark on the pulley. Advance or retard the timing by turning the distributer. 5 degrees is ussually the factory setting for timing, and this is listed under the hood.

Or you can skip all that, and set it by ear. Record your gas mileage and adjust it if you think it is off.

Re: Woodruff key

Buy yourself a manual. You won't regret it.
