Question Ok to run without EGR valve???

Hi everyone i have a 1977 buick lesabre an i wantto put a edlebrock performance intake manifold an a 650 CFM electric choke carb on it an found they make 2 different kinds of intakes for mystyle engine, btw its a olds engine an they have the stock one by edlebrock an a highrise one that elimates the egr valve an another hole that comes out from the right hand side of the carb. My question is can i get the high rise intake an be fine without habin the egr valve or will it mess up without it later on down the road?? I ask cause i bought a cjrome air cleaner an it dont sit flush an i cant find a carb spacer that will match the layout of the stock carb an i like the look of the highrise manifold with the electric carb so can it be done or will i have to get the other style manifold an get the spacer tof it it with the after markert carb??

Re: Ok to run without EGR valve???

Possible failed emissions in your state and risk of pinging/detonation without recurving the stock dist.

Question Re: Ok to run without EGR valve???

Ok but mine dont need the emmisons part of the inspection it only needs saftey an that takes less than 5 mins to do lol. so if i got the highrise manifold lateron down the road would it mess my engine bad enough to where it wouldnt run to its full potential or stop runnin all together?

You have to read the disclaimers on these manifolds. I remember reading about Edelbrocks in magazine ads that had disclaimer that said non-EGR manifolds are for off-road applications only. That says to me that they are illegal to install on street driven vehicles. Even if you don't have to go through a tailpipe sniff test, you could still fail a visual underhood inspection or if you get pulled over for a random roadside inspection and the cop sees you are missing your EGR, you could get fined and possibly have your car impounded. You might get away with it, you might even get away with it for a long time, or you might get busted the next day. It is up to you decide if you feel safe taking the chance of getting caught.

Re: Ok to run without EGR valve???

Wow i didn't know that, i'll have to read the edelbrock catalog i got an look at the manifold an see if it does an if it does then i'll have to go with the other one an try to find a carb spacer so i can raise the carb up so my chrome air cleaner will sit flush on the carb an will clear the egr valve. What's the avg life of a egr valve that are on the car an when do they need to be replaced? Cause i don't think mines been replaced at all, Thanks for the info on that an all i didn't know that about if i had gotten the one without it but i'll let u know what the catalog says about them.
