Is it the timing belt?

Hello looking for a little help. Got stuck one day and had to give it little a little more gas than usual to get out of the snow bank. Afterwards within about 3 miles I noticed the vehicle sluggish and no power. I was already going to replace the cat and sensors and have done so already. The power issue has not gone away, it will idle fine but when I give it gas it boggs down at 2500rpm. Kind of sounds like four barrel carb opening up (I know its EFI but thats what its sounds like). Timing belt never replaced and have 95000 I should have replaced it already. I've never replaced the coils or wires either. I'm planning on doing both but would really like to know what the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jess

Re: Is it the timing belt?

could be a fuel injector.i would dump some injector cleaner in it and see if that helps. i would also replace the fuel filter if its been a long time since its been changed. and maybe a spark plug change to see how they look.

also i read somewhere that timing belts should be changed every 70,000 miles. and it is not that hard on a sportage to do. though i havent done it yet.

Re: Is it the timing belt?

Changing the belt at this mileage is just normal maintenance..and it may avoid being stranded in the middle of nowhere. So I'd suggest you do not spend money just for the sake of inquiring and do the belt first since it is overdue anyway....if it cures the problem, fantastic, if not, then you have not wasted your time anyway.
