Profits on each car sold by manufacturer

BMW was the most profitable company last year, BMW Group total sales were 1.32 million cars&trucks, for $3.6 billion US -> BMW made on average $2780 profit for every car sold.

Other makers, & profit for every car sold:

BMW $2780
Audi $2040
Toyota $1918
Honda $1653
Hyundai $826
Chrysler $632
VW $214

Ford -$142
Mercedes Benz -$490
GM -$571

GM actually lost $571 for every car they sold!! Shocking to see MB there too

Rep the Be Em Dub YO!

I'm not suprised with MB...to busy spending money to save Chrysler and Mitsubishi...

Seeing BMW up top makes me wonder if I wanna go over to Mistu or Nissan with my next car after all...

Re: Profits on each car sold by manufacturer

Toyota raised their pricesa few years ago to help the domestic car market as having them completely fail will affect everyone in a negative way.

Unfortunately, I do not see much of a future for GM.
They are heading south fast.

GM fell off the wagon when they stopped making the Grand National.

Re: Profits on each car sold by manufacturer

I dont know where this is sourced from...But I am assuming the numbers came from dividing net income over units sold

Thats not a very accurate representation of profitability of the companies because it includes factors that arent necessarily cash, like amortization, and gains & losses on sales...it also includes non-operating expenses like interest and taxes

A company could be very profitable selling the cars, but could have alot of interest payments, making their profit per car seem much smaller than it is

just some food for thought

crazy info!
I an see GM falling behind as they really dont have anything to offer anymore unless you are in a midlife crisis or a soccer mom.

On a flip note though, I would have thought Chrysler would be higher. They seem to have the moste exciting and inovative vehicles coming out now....my opinion of course.

That doesnt mean that GM sucks as a company...it just means that they're such nice guys that they're practically GIVING thier cars away!
