Simple Stereo Upgrade?

Hi everyone,

has anybody been able to upgrade their stereo by simply replacing front speakers in the factory housing and installing a similar set in the rear doors (rather than use the tiny 4" units in the cargo area), connecting to a good Head Unit and achieved an acceptable outcome? Is it possible without having to installing Amps and subs?

My recent attempt has failed miserably. 4 good quality Pioneer 2 ways all round direct off a good Pioneer head unit sounded only a little better than stock. I installed a small Boss 4 ch amp and it's still sounds bla. Now I'm being told to go a sub. Well, yes that may do it, but I want to keep it simple.

Has anyone achieved a simple outcome without amps and subs?

Thanks,
Wayne

Re: Simple Stereo Upgrade?

I think its your speakers. I replaced my rear 4 inchers with pioneers when I bought mine because the old ones were blown. I'm not impressed with them, really no bass at all. The old single cone factory ones had much more bass even though they were bad. I'm still not decided on what brand I want to go with when I replace all of my speakers. I've heard Boston Acustics have pretty good sound though.

Like you I dont want to mess with amps and subs, just keep it simple and have decent sound.

Re: Simple Stereo Upgrade?

mb quartz have a great sounding small speaker set-up. they are pricey though.

as far as a simple set up. maybe go get a 5 or 6 channel amp. then you have one amp running everything. get one nice sub, 8 inch or ten inch. bridge the channels.

i think you are lacking the low end, this is what will help produce a better sound quality for you. a sub will really help you out. it doesn't have to be a mega power 15" either. just a small 8 or 10 in you like.

installing components in the factory housings might help also.
