shaking

Heys,

I got a sentra 92' (to the best of my knowledge, about the year), and besides the small problems a car of that age has, there's one that's just too annoying.

The shaking.

This car, when stopped at a red light, will shake so much, that I can feel my teeth clattering.
Now, I'm not so great with engines, but what's the problem here?

Well, I'd say either the motor mounts are totally gone or the motor is misfiring. Or both.

The motor misfiring would cause it to be unbalanced when it's running and vibrate or wobble. If you are experiencing low power output when you step on the gas, or poor gas mileage, the motor is most likely misfiring.

The motor mounts are what your motor is sitting on inside the engine bay. They are soft(relatively) and act as a cushion between the motor and your car. If they are old and destroyed, the motor is basically sitting on the bare metal of your car's chassis sending every little vibration throughout the entire car.

If the vibrations are more "smooth"(like a bee or something), the it's probably just the motor mounts. If they are large and slow(like a lop-sided washing machine), then the motor is probably misfiring. In any case, the motor mounts probably aren't in good condition.
