While backing I have to raise up on the automatic column gear shift slightly for the backup lights to come on. I need advice on how to adjust the backup light switch. Is it at the automatic transmission or on the column gear shifter? This is a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.2L engine.

Re: Backup Lights Switch Adjust
The ajustment is on the shift linkage, you will need a 1/2" wrench to adjust.

Re: Backup Lights Switch Adjust
You access the adjuster from underneath. Behind the splash shield on the left front wheel.

Re: Backup Lights Switch Adjust
I did this recently and its easy BUT its touchy. I adjusted the correct way, my reverse lights stayed on, but it took a little mor pressure to put in park.So I tapped it back about 1/8 of an inch and it goes it par good, but lights shutoff again. Try tapping it back about 1/16 of an inch. ha ha, ya right......needless to say, I have to hold up my shifter to keep my lights on, at least it was a nice day out to lay on my back and waste time.LOL
