Rich Rich Fuel

I have a 92 jimmy 4.3 Vortec. My check engine light come on and shows me the code for the EGR rather then fixing I just dissconected it and the problem is gone But my fuel is burning rich very rich You can smell it in the exhaust hell you can huff it out of the exhaust. When I bought the truck they said it had no CC on it just a straight pipe to the muffler. I am trying to find out if there is a way to stop it from running so rich as gas is to pricey as we all know

You should check out your CPI and Nut Kit. It's a common failure, and will cause a rich condition due to fuel leaking down in to the cylinders. If this is your problem, it should be fixed asap because the fuel will leak into the oil and can cause permanent engine damage.

Your EGR problem could simply be caused by a piece of carbon that has become lodged in the valve. A quick cleaning may solve it.

if it is reading a egr code, 32 i beleive, then you need to take the egr valve, on the front of the engine, look up the part at a parts store to see a pic of it if you aren't sure, so you'll know what it looks like, take the egr off the engine using a 10mm socket and extension on a swivel and clean it out with carb and choke cleaner, if it's bad it should have alot of carbon on the pressure pin or on a screen on the gasket, which some models have, you don't necessarily have to get a new gasket with a screen in it as most times you will find that your parts store doesn't carry it.. make sure the pressure pin can go in and out before you replace the egr valve after clean. you may have to make a gasket if your store doesn't have one, you can cut the edges with sissors if you have make one cleanly, you can create the holes for the gasket with the proper size socket and hammer, make sure you have a flat surface and put the socket on the gasket and hit it hard with a hammer, it should cut out the hole locations pretty easily. make sure you test fit this gasket to see which direction it goes on the egr as there is a right and a wrong way to put both the egr valve and gasket on the intake. this should fix your problem as it did mine, PS make sure to unhook the negative battery on your vehicle before you start this project for safety and to reset the engine codes. Hope this solves your problems it did mine.

you may want to start the vehicle with the egr off to let any additional carbon escape the engine and not get stuck in the egr pressure pin when you reinstall it. When you do this don't do it for a long period of time, as it may start ticking and make sure no one is in front of the engine because carbon will fly out everywhere like sand.. rev it up a few times. make sure you don't rev it up to high and blow your engine..
