So I have a big 16g.... now what?

Ok, so as many of you know, I had a Big 16g in the "stock" Talon . This kinda throws me for a loop. I was going to fix the head gasket then do the exhaust, MBC/boost guage, then intake/FMIC/GM MAF setup before summer. Well, now that I find out I have this bigger turbo, I just want to use that one until I get it fairly maxed out. The Big 16g is too big to run the stock injectors and fuel pump on right? I think I will get the HG fixed, then I will get a walbro 255, aeromotive FPR, then injectors and DSMlink before summer and save the summer. Then I should be able to get cams, FMIC, MBC and a good tune before the midwest meet. Do you guys think that sounds good? Would any of you do anything different?

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

The 16g can run fine on stock injectors and pump at stock boost, around 10psi on thhe big 16g wastegate. I like that you're doing things right, you're not buying a fmic before you need it etc. Don't worry about the intake manifold, that's the last mod for that turbo. Cams really help, but are better when you have more boost/injectors. Also I would port the turbo while it's off the car now. If you don't have a 2g manifold, look for one, they go for like 30 bucks around here.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

Ok, sweet. How much boost can I run before the stock stuff isnt enough? Could I manage 15-16 psi? I think my plan is as follows: before summer (and before it its the road) DSM link, injectors, fuel pump, and FPR. If I can manage before summer I will try to get the MBC/boost guage, maybe a couple other guages, and a 3" exhaust, then I will do the hard intake pipe, FMIC, and possible GM MAF. Thanks crunchy.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

Personally I wouldn''t run any more than 13. You'll either hit fuel cut or run lean past that, the 16g is flowing a lot more air than the ecu expects.

Also, if you plan on keeping this turbo for a while, why not just get a walbro 190? The 16g can never use more fuel than this provides, and you won't need a FPR. If you ever so upgrade, the pumps themselves are only about a hundred bucks anyway. www.extremepsi.com is my favorite vendor. cheapest prices on anything, and free shipping, they'll beat any competitor, and will give you coupons on the phone if you ask for them.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

I do plan on a bigger turbo possibly before the midwest meet, if not hopefully before September. I'm not sure though. I'm aiming for 11's before the end of the summer, think I could hit those on a big 16g? After the head gasket I think DSM link is my next mod (might be able to buy it used and save a few $$$), then pump, fpr, and injectors.

For injectors I was planning on going big... between 850's and 1000's. I think 850's are like $240 on eBay as opposed to like $320 for the 1000's. How much turbo will I need to outflow the 850's? Thanks for the heads up on extremepsi.com, good source.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

evo 16g is good for about 380 hp. I don't think you can quite run 11's on that. Im thinking with good tuning and supporting mods mid 12's if ur lucky 13's most likely. The turbo alone won't make your car 4 seconds faster on the 1/4 mile.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

1000cc's, no doubt about it. DSMlink can control these injectors like stock, they'll idle fine too. There is no reason to get the 860's or whatever you wanted. Just remember obviously that these injectors aren't going near your car until dsmlink is installed. Injectors are one of those things I wouldn't go the cheap ebay route though. Think about how much these things have to be thouroughly tested to make sure they flow right, not to mention if one of these injectors leans out then bye bye motor.

Some people have hit 11's with a big16 with AWD and ALL the supporting mods. You need everything from cams to SMIM, high boost, and race gas though. mid 12's are easy with an AWD, bug 16g, and most of the supporting mods.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

also about extremepsi, I used to have some coupon codes that gave really good discounts. I can't find them, but I'm almost positive someone from THIS forum gave them to me. If you have them, let me and thor know please! These coupons would save you serious money, plus no shipping, so it's not much more than ebay.

Re: So I have a big 16g.... now what?

If you don't plan to go over 15 psi, even the stock 2g pump supports more than the turbo can flow assuming fuel with a specific gravity of .76 (pump gas) and a target AFR of 11:1. Not that I recomend this of course At the same time, an EVO 16g will outflow a 190, but a small/big 16g should suffice.

The small and big 16Gs can run 11s. In my full weight 2g I hit 12.02 on a big 16g with cams and a frount mount (stock intake manifold, block, head, etc). Same situation with Ricer's car (same mods) and a small 16g I hit a 12.07 the only time I made a pass in it. This is race gas and maximum airflow/boost though, about 20 psi and ~35-38 lbs/min, and naturally DSMlink is a big part of this Most people tend to end up in the mid 12s though. At the other end of the scale, a friend of mine ran 11.51 at 121 on an EVO3 16g (dynoed 380 on an old tune), but it's relatively light (not stripped) and he drives the bag out of that car. Nearly got booted for a roll cage on a 16g, lmao.

With DSMlink, go big on the injectors, as has been mentioned. I had excellent results with FIC injectors, everything up through the 950s. I have a set of 950s coming this week for my EVO and another for my buddys DSM.

I think your plan in the first post sounds pretty good. A nice solid plan of action IMO.
