Question Replace radio/cd with radio/casette

How difficult would it be to replace the factory radio/cd in a 2005 Impala with the factory radio/casette that came in that same model year? Are there any particular problems this change might cause?

Thanks for your input.

Re: Replace radio/cd with radio/casette

The only thing I'd be concerned about is the Control Settings that you currently have access to with your existing radio. I don't know if the Cassette option has the ability to access FOB settings and such....

It'll be no problem but you will have to have the dealer's help. They'll have to teach the radio your car's VIN number.

Re: Replace radio/cd with radio/casette

You can swap it out but there are a few issues.

1) You must make sure you use a compatible radio of the right vintage. Chevy offered a few different radios in the last few years that look very similiar but are not interchangeable.

2) As someone else posted, you will need to have the new radio programmed with the VIN from your vehicle. To further elaborate: If the VIN doesn't match your car, Theftlock is engaged. Anyone with a Tech 2 device (usually only GM dealers because of cost) can do this.

3) You also have to get the car's computer programmed to see the different radio RPO code. This is also done using the Tech 2. Figure 30-60 minutes of dealer time, between the two tasks.

www.replacementradios.com has the CD/Cass radios for that. Here's the link:
