Followup:Taurus wiper problem
Hey Gang,
Just wanted to post a followup on my wiper problem to possibly help others that may have a similar problem. Symptom: Wipers would intermittently come on for no apparent reason. Fix: Replace the multi-function switch. This is the complete turn signal assy. To replace you must: 1)Disconnect negative battery terminal 2)Remove the 3 screws from the lower steering column cover(recessed in the molded cover) 3)Remove tilt wheel lever--this is where I hit a snag. To remove this lever, you will notice a flat spot on the lever itself. Take a very small open ended ignition wrench and unscrew this lever CCW out of the column. 4)The column covers(top half/bottom half) will then move out of the way good enough to remove the multifunction switch. 5)Remove the the multifunction switch by removing the 2 torx head screws that keep it fastened to the column. 7)Unplug the 2 connectors on the multifunction switch. 8)Install new switch and reassemble. Note:You DO NOT have to remove the ignition switch as many say you do. Not a bad job at all....I just got hung up on the tilt lever removal and hope I can save somebody some time by posting these instructions. Danno |

Re: Followup:Taurus wiper problem
Nice writeup. My '99 started having the weird wiper symptoms a year ago but so far it hasn't showed up again. If it does I'll remember your repair process, even though I have the TSB printed out.
