2.2 Ecotec really takes 5.8 quarts??

I just changed the oil on my 2002 Alero w/ 2.2 ecotec and I was suprised to see how much oil it took (5.8 quarts). I put in 5 quarts and the dip stick is saying that it is already full. (This is after running the engine at idle for about 5 minutes.)

Would it hurt the engine if I just put in 6 quarts? Would 1/5th of a quart extra harm the engine in any way? Or should I just add the rest in about a month when it gets a little low?

5.8 quarts is correct for the 2.2 according to the Owner's Manual. Personally I wouldn't overfill it but 1/5 of a quart probably won't hurt either.

I wouldn't add the rest. What's the harm in leaving it in the bottle?
