coolant leak??

i am no mechanic. just want to make that clear.

i noticed a small wet spot on my driveway under my truck. spot is a little smaller than my fist. i looked under the truck and can see red liquid on the bottom of the skid plate. it is dripping out of the holes. i was not sure if it was coolant or tranny fluid. it put a little on my finger and tasted it. it had kind of a sweet taste. this is coolant right?

oil looks clean, resevoir looks to be where it should be. i just crawled under the truck to see if i could see anything. the passenge side of the front diff. is wet. i have searched forums on coolant leaks and read about intake gaskets and head gaskets. i don't know where it is coming from.

truck is an 02 with 50,000 on it. any thoughts from anyone would be helpful. thanks!!!

Re: coolant leak??

no the water pump was still good. gm puts cheap gaskets on their trucks. so we replaced it with a cork gasket.just take ittoyour garage and get it pressure tested.

remember that is just an option for your leak it may not be that.

if that is the problem, could that run down onto the front diff. or maybe that isn't coolant on the front diff. it is so hard to see stiff without taking the skid plate off, which i didnt do. i appreciate your response

Re: coolant leak??

i had antifreeze on my skidplate and a little puddle beside my head. so i took it to my garage and they pressure tested because i wasnt sure at the time either. wasnt sure ifit was the head gasket, water pump. intake gasket,or the small tube that goes intothe head. after the pressure test we couldsee where it was coming from.
