decisions decisions
ok so i got 2,400 back for my taxes and im wanting to get my old 85 crx running again cant decide what route to take..
my options are this... #1 rebuild my 89 zc with forged internals to run my turbo... #2 rebuild the stock si that has a spun rod bearing... #3 go with a junkyard 87 d16 teggy and not worry bout the wiring issue i already got everything i need for the d16 swap such as hubs axles etc..for the exception of a 89 wiring harness that i slautered... |

Re: decisions decisions
#1 will cost you more than $2,400
#2 will not give you the gains of an '86/'87 DOHC D16A1 #3 will probably be your best option I'd swap the ZC right now and start working on the wiring (you're going to have to do it eventually), then pick up a junk yard D16A1 block and rebuild it as your budget allows. When the rebuilt block is done, you can then swap the ZC head onto your new block and you'll be ready to go turbo! |

Re: decisions decisions
my zc block needs work though i had turboed it on stock internals and it lasted only 2 weeks b4 it started having major excessive blowby ... at that time i never checked into the cause of it but my guess is rings. is the d16 block better than the zc???

Re: decisions decisions
The '88-'89 D16A1 block is exactly the same as your ZC (assuming you have an '88-'89 Integra ZC), so it doesn't matter which one you rebuild. The only difference is the cams.
What car were you running your '89 ZC in? |

Re: decisions decisions
ya its an 89 zc took me forever to find the engine code on it..... its stamped on the intake side of the block. and i got the long block so ya its got zc cams as well. the tranny is a usdm 87 integra though and the ecu was an 89... after i ruined the engine i took it out so i could rebuild it and put it in my other crx thats alot nicer and now that it has a spun rod bearing im gonna try and get it done. (key word try) lol..

Re: decisions decisions
Do you have a pic of the head?
I'm just wondering if you have the correct ZC since there was an '89 Integra ZC and an '89 Civic ZC. The Civic ZC won't easily fit into a 1G CRX and the obvious difference is the bolt configuration on the valve cover. This is why I asked which car you had been running the ZC in. |

Re: decisions decisions
i had the zc in my 86 crx the body was hella crappy so now since my 85 is broke down ima swap the better powerplant into the good body...

Re: decisions decisions
Yep, that's the correct valve cover.
I'd go with options #1 and #3. Pick up a D16A1 as a temporary swap while you're rebuilding the ZC. You should be able to find a D16A1 in your local Pick and Pull for under $200. |
