Really pissed off and frustrated

OK, So I got all new motor mounts from Deyeme Racing, and A couple weeks ago I put the Engine side, and Front roll stop on. Pretty easy DIY. Today (yesterday) I decided to put on the Trans side and rear roll stop. Just looking at it the trans side looked like it would be just as easy as the engine side. HOWEVER!!! After undoing all of the bolts and whatnot i made a not so awesome discovery...there was no way in HELL I would be able to get the fuckin mount OUT of the car. There was absolutely NO clearance. Even with the trans dropped as far as it would go there was no way to get it out. After thinking through all my options I decided the best thing to try would be to undo the front roll stop bar (the bar that goes from the front of the car down the middle to just behind the flex pipe), and see if that would allow the trans to drop anymore. Thankfully it worked....but only just. I swear to god, Mitsu must have had a major mind fuck when they designed that mount position. AND THEN, looking at how to get to the rear one looks WAY harder. My dad and I have to remove the front stop, the bar, the intake, battery, and a few other things just to see the mount. Then, they put the bolts in the most rediculous place. I can't believe what a pain in the ass this has been. I just wanted to let anyone who is thinking about replaceing their mounts to know that they will need a lot of time and critical thinkig to get the job done.

Anyone else have this experience, or am I totally retarded?

Re: Really pissed off and frustrated

prolly not, having the motor in makes no room to do anything

the rear mount isn't as hard as you think it is, get a 1/2" breaker bar and just stick it up from underneath (it has to be real long) and you might need a pipe to get some extra leverage. from underneath, you'll need to make sure the car is absolutely secure, cuz you might have to take a mallet to it, and someone w/ smaller hands would be preferred.

the top is almost useless except for guiding tools for the rear mount. Trust me!!! I did mine entirely from underneath and it was a pain in the ass. as far

The other mounts.. bah i prolly won't ever do them. Front one is, beyond ease to install.

Good luck though, its the things you can't do that you think you could that are a pain in the ass the most!!

Re: Really pissed off and frustrated

No I didnt pull the motor...i dont have the means or the time to do that. I did get them all in, and the rear wasnt really that bad. I guess all in all it wasnt that hard, it was just frustrating thinking about how much easier it SHOULD have been. Piss poor design made it harder than it needed to be, but oh well. The drive I have now is way better than it was before. My old mounts were shot to hell, so these are much improved. Thanks guys

Re: Really pissed off and frustrated

OK, true as that may be, it would have been very easy for them to leave like 1 more inch of clearance for them to be removed...especially since the quality of the stock mounts was so bad. I dont know how long they intended them to last (even with a grandma driving), but from how mine looked, they needed to be replaced long before I knew there was a serious problem. That front roll stop had 2 little rubber pieces holding the whole thing togeather, and my engine and trans side mounts were completely separated from the housing...like, nothing left holding them on. When i took them out, the rubber centers fell out when I pressed on them. Also, what pisses me off the most i guess was that the repair manual I got (supposed to be a good one), said absolutely nothing about there being clerance issues, or any problems I could run into when doing this. Perhaps if I were warned ahead of time that I would run into some tricky parts, I would not have been frustrated, and needed to problem solve. Oh well, it's in the past and I hope this thread helps out some others in the future if they plan on tackeling this task. It is a DIY no doubt (with pneumatic tools), but plan ahead of time on spending more time that you think you will need (I guess that goes true with any DIY project).

Yeah, Christmas brought a 50 Gallon Air compressor, and a whole slew of fantastic tools. Impact wrenches, and Ratchets rock my socks off. Not to mention I will soon be investing in spraying products.

Re: Really pissed off and frustrated

lol I remember the fun I had with the rear motormount. Took about four hours of throwing shit and cursing until we finally figured out how to get it out. What a pain in the ass.

Re: Really pissed off and frustrated

Did you get your clutch, flywheel, and LSD all put in at the same time? Either way, how much did it cost you to get any/all of it done. I dont think I want to tackle dropping the trans in this car (i've heard its a biotch). Im gettin a New clutch and flywheel this summer, and LSD to come later, just curious what install might run. (I know each shop runs different $hr, but just a ballpark would be nice). I never have shops do anything anymore, so I have no idea

Re: Really pissed off and frustrated

I had my clutch and flywheel replaced about a month ago. My shop in my town charged me about 380 bucks to change it out. He was expected to do it in about 6 or 7 hours but they couldn't figure some things out and it ended up taking about a day and a half. Luckily I do a lot of business there and they didn't charge me any extra. To replace both it is usually about an 8 hour job, so check on labor rates and good luck.
