Transmission Problems

Alright this is kind of hard to explain so bear with me. I have a rebuilt tranny (auto) that was rebuilt about 9 months ago. It has a one year warranty on it and there is a minor problem I am noticing. When I am at cruising speeds and have the pedal down in a "frozen place" if you will it starts to kind of deaccelerate. It will go down about 4mph or so and then quick downshift and and catch back up and then repeat itself over and over agian. It also is leaking some transmission oil that I can see when I have had it parked in one spot for a while. What do you think is causing this? Any help is greately appreciated. And by the way I checked the FAQ and didn't see anything on this (mabye I overlooked something).

Sorry I can't help with an answer except. Take that sucker back and make them back their warranty. With it acting like you mention yet alone a leak, that would be what I would do. Or as some might say, "Time to do a 5 speed swap".

Thats the only advise I can offer. Good Luck in getting it right.

Re: Transmission Problems

I would love a 5 speed swap. Do you think there would be any chance of that if I took it back to them if it was really screwed up?

I would seriously doubt they would do a swap for you in place of a warranty repair. I don't know who did the work or if they even do swaps. If they do maybe they would offer you a discount to do it.

All I know is on our previous car "Prelude" our auto when out and I searched on doing a swap and it got pretty involved yet alone finding all the parts to do the job.

I just put a used tranny in it then sold it, (Got the GT 5sp ) because it was going to happen again. Their triptronic transmissions are horrable!

This is what was involved with the "Honduh" 5 speed swap FYI.

List of Parts:
Helms Manual (VERY IMPORTANT) Helm Inc
Transmissions Assembly (97+)
Trans mounts-side
Engine Mount-rear (rear is optional-the rear auto mount will work)
Flywheel and bolts
Clutch Kit and bolts
Clutch Master Cylinder
*Clutch Slave Cylinder
*Clutch Dampener
*Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
*Reverse Switch
*Hydrolic Lines
*5spd Starter
Clutch Pedal Assembly
Brake Pedal Assembly
Shifter Assembly
Shift linkage
Auto ECU or 5speed ECU
5spd Intermediate shaft (half-shaft)
5spd Gauge Cluster (optional)
Cotter Pins (assorted sizes)
Assorted Nuts and Bolts

* MOST LIKELY THESE WILL BE ATTACHED TO TRANNY (DOUBLE CHECK)
**This list of parts consistes of the main components needed and does not include every little nut, bolt, and bracket. You get the idea.

Being new to the Mitsubishi 3000 GT scean (3 weeks) someone else will have to jump in for more info for a swap. Or it's in the FAQ

Re: Transmission Problems

Well, my minivan, and most other cars with cruise control will slow down and speed up around areas with even slight inclines. Now about the downshifting, maybe it's not that, but your overdrive is messing up???? The leaking fluid part doesn't sound good at all, and it'll usually only get worse down the line. I'd get it looked at man.
