Question the El camino's abilities

What are the abilities of an 80 el camino as far as horsepower goes. A stock 305 does not provide a lot of power and i would like to give it a major overhaul. What ever i put in i recently discoverd the power in twin turbo set ups. any comments on twin turbo would be helpful, as well as comments on the suspension and frame's ability to handle large horse power. If im going in the wrong direction let me know. Im looking to have a fun car to drive, but one i can keep on the road. Im most interested in straight line performance, something that will put in the back of the seat when i want it to, but not something that is just absurd. Any comments would be helpful Thanks.

Also

I also would like some suggestions on what transmission to use more than anything. I am lost when it comes to brands and how much horsepower they can handle. Any help will be greatly appriciated. Thanks a lot everyone!

Re: the El camino's abilities

twin turbos can be nice setups though they tend to shorten the life span of an engine
