WIP F150....need some assistance with colored pencil

ok here it is. im trying to get down the techniques of using colored pencils, specificaly prismacolors. here is my F150, and i tryd coloring it, but it just doesnt turnout good. how do you guys get the reflection lines, do you put black or white underneath the color and then just do layers.
also im getting a very textured look, would stonehenge paper help?

Ahhhh.... it's a pain to see that you already put the black marker in the background!!! the roof line angle is too extreme or the shoulder line is off - now the roof vanishing line won't converge to the vanishing lines of the body... You could have corrected that so easyly!
Except of that little thing is an awesome drawing. The wheels are very good.

For getting rid of the texture, try Q-Tips. You can use them for smudging the color into the papers holes. Also, you will achieve better results with high quality pencils such as Prismacolor. You draw good, you should think about them. It would be an investment worth for you.

Try to get more layers down when it is to light. Don't push to hard, just adda few more layers, smudge and repeat. For the reflection lines, just draw a line with the color used for shading afterwards.

Keep layering, the graininess will go away eventually and you'll get a nice solid color. Add a bit of grey in there to keep the color realistic looking and not too saturated. Be patient with and don't get frustrated because it takes alot of time to build layers. Burnishing (going over with white using harder pressure) also helps to get rid of the grain.

did you set a grid for that truck, or did you just eye it, if you want a specific drawing to come out the same axact way...the best way is to grid it there should be a griding tut in the FAQ but correct me if im wrong guys

thanks for the comments guys. ha i did notice the slat of the roof at school, but i looked at the reference pic and it looked correct, but its obviously not. oh well ill try and not do the backround first next time . anyway in this pic. there is just one layer of prismacolor red-yellow-and orange, and then i put white over it to burnish it---and it dulled the color, however ill try mixing some grey in there and layer it more and more.

JD- i was thinking of gridding this pic, but it was done by eye. i just pulled the reference pic up on the computer and drew it on paper---but yes i have gridded b4
