Possible Donor Car?

Hello everyone. I have a vinc engine from a 1990 olds 88 with 45k on it from a wreck. I'm going to be pulling it out next week and I was looking for another car to drop the engine into. I've got quite a bit of experience with buick and olds h-bodys and I know that bonnes are essentially the same so I started my quest for a donor H-body for my engine.

I found a Bonneville in decent shape in a nearby town with about 200k on the car. The plates were good up to June of '03 so the longest the car has sat would be two or three years. I know this would be hell on the engine, but I don't really care about the engine since I'm dropping one in but would anything on the body, particularly the suspension and fuel tank, have trouble with sitting for so long?

The body seems to be in pretty good shape for it's age and the interior is really nice other than the drooping headliner (but that is common). The windshiled is cracked and the hood latch is bent up a bit but otherwise I cant find anything bad other than the expected wear on a 15+ year old car. I don't know the year of the car but it does have a vinC in 'er so It must be from 87 to 90 or so.

Anyway, I was wondering if ya'll over here in the Bonne forums could tell me if there is anything I should watch out for before I offer to buy the car? Also, would I be better off to get the car first, set it next to my wrecked car and swap the engines over directly or should I pull out my engine and clean it up (and swap needed parts from bonne engine to oldmobile engine) real good before I dump it in the Bonne?

Opinions are appreciated

Re: Possible Donor Car?

I swapped a 2000 GP motor into a 95 Bonneville. I would recommend you pull the Olds engine then swap one for one onto the Bonnieville Engine. I found that motor mounts, and several of the accessory attachments had different studs. You might find a lot of little things that are different. I had an 88 Bonny, and a 95 pretty solid suspensions, and other then the normal maintenance no big problems. Watch the transmission cooling lines they have rust and can ruin a transmission.
