Question '99 Yukon slt wont start

Have a '99 yukon 5.7l replaced the starter and it still won't start all power and wiring seems fine, I'm getting a loud strong clicking from starter but engine not turning over, then clock resets to 1:00. I don't lose any radio stations or anything else

Any one else have this

Re: '99 Yukon slt wont start

Just logged on after a few weeks. If you haven't been able to start it yet, you might get lucky and find it's only the starter relay. If you get real lucky, you might find just by taking it out and putting it back in, it will start. If not, you can buy a new one for about $10 at auto parts stores. The relay box is located under the hood on the driver's side to the left of the brake master cylinder, and the descriptions of them are printed on the underside of the relay box and in your owner's manual. Good luck.

Re: '99 Yukon slt wont start

I have the same problem BigRich16 has. I hit the starter and loud clicking sound, no start - all lights go out - clock on radio resets to 1:00. When I turn the key off and back on, the lights come back on. It seems like a circuit breaker is tripping and then resetting itself. Since there is no circuit breaker on the starting circuit, is it possible for a starter relay or other ignition problem to trip the interior courtesy lights circuit breaker.

Tomorrow I'm going to check the voltage at the starter - I didn't have a helper tonight so I couldn't check it with the key in the start position. Other possibilities for problems (but I find these hard to believe they go bad that often - someone enlighten me if I'm wrong) crankshaft position sensor, or the neutral safety switch.

Battery cables are tight and clean at the battery - I just replaced the starter thinking it was bad, but have the same problems as before I replaced it. Anyone have any thoughts.
