Kinda disopointed in borla...

I just got my car back from the muffler shop today, spent $150 getting it all welded up and an adapter made.
I am fairly disopointed, not as disopointed as when i had my flowmaster catback but still not what i expected...
I got the full 3" borla catback, i can tell a gain in hp definatly when i step on the gas, but sound wise, its not what i expect. It sounds mean, but not loud enough, i have the biggest plate in the side, no restriction basicly, its louder then the flowmaster but still not as loud as some 6 bangers rideing around here whitch is starting to get me discouraged.
Im not sure if its true that a muffler takes time to break in, becuase when i had the flowmaster on after about a month or so i thought it started to sound louder, will this happen or what?
I still have a stock cat converter and headers, i guess thats my next step, how much with a high flow cat and some long tube headers increase the sound?
I have a 305 tbi and shes really starting to disopoint me
Somebody please offer a shoulder to cry on
On the other hand... the tips look nice... lol

Re: Kinda disopointed in borla...

Get some long tube headers and since you have a tbi get the open air filter. When i did that on my tbi it sounded sweet when i punched it. when i had flowmasters installed in my RS it sounded weak until 2 weeks later, so there might be something about breaking them in.

Re: Kinda disopointed in borla...

i was reading up on the materals on the muffler part of the borla catback and aparently they claim to use the highest grade materals (like they all say) so that doesnt happen, who knows, ill give it a week or so and see what it sounds like, i was just out in the driveway reving it up, it sounds real mean and all but just not loud enough for me...
What is the difference between "long tube headers" and regular headers? and does anyone have good brands for camaros that come to mind? i was thinking SLP

Re: Kinda disopointed in borla...

Oh also, recently, when ive been turning off the car after reving it up and letting it sit for awile like just now, i look at the pipes and i can see smoke comming out of them, like something is burning in there or something, its not a huge cloud of smoke, it just kinda spirals out slow, lasts for a few minutes like that, whats going on there? Is that the whole "breaking in" of the muffler?

Re: Kinda disopointed in borla...

My muffler did the same shit when i installed it, it smelled a little burn but it went away. If u wanted loud you should have gone with loud mouth, that's what im geting. i Just want it to be freaking loud.

Re: Kinda disopointed in borla...

It will definately sound better with some time, as it "burns in" it will get a deeper & more throaty tone.
the light smoke will go away too - Its just machine oil burning off from where Borla made the bends and swedges for all of the pieces.

Re: Kinda disopointed in borla...

I can try somehow to get a sound clip up, record it on my cell phone or something and put it on my computer but i can quarentee it wont sound that great becuase of the cell phone part lol.
But anyway, im starting to get happier with it, i was just driveing around for about an hour and even wile driveing i could notice it starting to sound a bit louder and deeper. It definatly sounds "good" but just not "holy hell thats loud" good, maybe becuase it isnt possable to sound good and still get the "holy hell thats loud" effect at the same time who knows, but i am happy with it so far, cant wait to hear it in a couple weeks.
I was even thinking of getting a loudmouth muffler and just putting that in the borla's place but i think im gonna keep this for a month or so and see where it gets me.
Back to my header question though, whats the difference between normal headers and long tube headers?
