whine noise in subwoofer

I have a 1998 EB, lately I started hearing a whining noise coming from the subwoofer in the back of the explorer. It seems like an engine noise since it occurs only when the engine is running and does not matter if the radio is on or off. It goes away after few minutes but then comes back. I tried to remove the subwoofer, removed the panel and all screws but the subwoofer would not come out.

Any ideas about what could be causing the noise and how to remove the subwoofer. Thank you

Re: whine noise in subwoofer

I'm not sure what the noise is, I would guess interference like you said.

To remove the subwoofer, you have to take off the entire back panel...not just the one covering the sub. Here is a pdf that is published by MTX to install/remove the sub. This should help you figure it out.

I hope that helps.

I did that and installed a jbl p-800 in that spot with some modifications to make it fit and reseal it. (I had blown the factory one) Sounds much much better now. There is a JL speaker that someone told me would work nicely in there, but I forget it's product number. Just do a search for an 8".

Good luck.

usually a whining noise coming from the subwoofer means that there is a bad ground on that circuit or two of the wires are touching each other or somthing else allong that line ,to take the woofer out you have to take the whole pannel off back there ... its a bitch
