Re: Over Heating (97 528i)
Your radiator may be clogged up....
I had that problem, and took it to a local radiator shop and they cleaned it... $50. Also, bleeding the cooling system can be tricky, I am only familiar with my 89 525i, but the first few times I did it, it took forever.... I think that I have learned the trick (finally): Use a funnel in the top of the radiator. Open the thermostat housing bleed screw and add 50/50 mix of coolant and water until it comes out the thermostat bleed port. Open the top bleed screw on the radiator, and add coolant until it comes out the top radiator bleed screw. The trick is to fill the funnel up to its rim, let it run into the system and fill it up to the rim again and repeat. Run the car til the thermostat opens, i.e., car reaches "normal" temp, (top and bottom radiator hoses get hot), then slowly open the thermostat bleed screw and stand back as hot coolant and bubbles of air are released.... If the car gets hot, but the top and bottom radiator hoses never get hot, its a sure sign you have no flow through the radiator.... As I said, I am not familiar with your particular car... hope this helps! What's up with the survey crap above? Hey moderator!?!? Good luck....

Re: Over Heating (97 528i)
it could be fan clutch.
if you are driving on the highway, your car does not overheat, if you are driving on the local , it over heats means i think fan clutch. it's easy to change, take your fan of , and change its clutch. |
