Re: how NOT to tow a 240 (especially auto)

holy ish batman. Wouldn't it work if they just put it in neutral though. And would the same apply for a manual car?

I don't know jackshit about towing cars so I'm guessing you're supposed to have the none-drive wheels on the ground?

Re: how NOT to tow a 240 (especially auto)

dunno what it the second one was. But was it the one where the kids get stuck then they try to pull it from the rear and rip the whole rear of the car off??? That shit is great.

Automatic transmissions are a complex mass of channels and check valves that need pressure from the pump attached to/part of the input shaft from the engine to operate. So the idea is that with the engine off, and the imput shaft on the auto trans not circulating the transmission fluid, the fluid by the output shaft, which is turning, gets really hot. Since a manual transmission doesn't have any kind of pump system, its just a bunch of grease sitting around in the gear box, it's not as much of an issue. Perhaps if the car was tilted back enough the front of the gear box could go dry but with the output shaft flinging grease around like mad it's not likely.

Re: how NOT to tow a 240 (especially auto)

Short tows you'll probably be alright. That guy up there was going 150 miles. For the peace of mind, take a few minutes to disconnect the driveshaft.
