check engine lite

on my 02 with 58000 miles, the check engine lite is on. is there one sensor to check first?

Don't monkey around with checking sensors...although, I'd bet a buck its an EGR code(which usually means a bad DPFE or EVR), but it could be something as small as a loose gas cap. My advice? Take it to a reputable shop or your local dealer and spend the money to get it scanned. You will probably spend more money in the long run if you just start 'throwing' parts at it. MM

Re: check engine lite

My 01 Tribute went to the "stealership" three times for the EGR sensor which brought up the check engine lite. Known issue..there is a post on how to fix this yourself...on the Tribute forum, written by a mechanic.
