rowing

i just wanted to announce my new workout. i just joined the school rowing team and the workout is pretty intense. it starts with 5 laps around the gym, then weight training working pretty much all your muscles except lower back and traps, then we go out for another 5 laps, do 3 sets of this with 10 mins on the rowing machine at some point throughout the workout. we do this monday-thursday until the ice melts, then it'll be every second day on the water, every other day in the gym.

i was wondering if i should do any kind of workout during my off days, other than cadio. like should i workout maybe saturday so i have friday and sunday to rest?

Re: rowing

Sounds like a fun workout. If anything I would workout friday or sunday to keep the rest days together. Give your body a chance to take a nice long break since your workout days are going to be one after another. I dont really know why you would need to do any more of a workout since during the week im sure they will have you working your entire body over the course of 4 days.

Re: rowing

yeah i figured i'd just do like an hour of biking friday saturday and sunday. just something to whip my body in shape faster and build endurance, cause i kinda need it. But it's a really good workout, thursday i did 4 circuits instead of 3 and 6 sets of 10 reps on the bench press instead of 4. i felt soo pumped by the end of the workout, i've never felt so good, it was like a testosterone high or something.

Re: rowing

i'm thinking of doing that next year, but i've got to learn how to swim first. if your paddle breaks or something like that happens you have to jump out of the boat right?

Re: rowing

well, i don't think any coach would let you on the team if you can't swim, i know mine won't. if your boat flips or something happens you'll be in the water, you don't want to drown lol. but i would definitly recommend rowing to you, it works your whole body and builds both strength and endurance. many people concider rowers to be some of the most fit people in the world. swimming is another good one. both of them do the same thing and they're low impact sports so you won't develop knee problems from them.
