Maybe A dumb question: Styrene Help

I want to scratch build a bodykit for my Tamiya Supra. I am not sure where to start though. I saw that S2000 thread and sort of picked up on that. I have not cut the front bumper off yet, but I have traced the bottom part. Now I am confused on making the rest of the bumper. I have an idea of what to do, but I am lost on how to make it have depth.

Do I put supports and then build styrene rectangles around them to get the depth. I know this is obvious sort of but I am a little lost and this is my first time working with styrene to build a whole body kit. Thanks for any help.

Re: Maybe A dumb question: Styrene Help

Well after you trace out the bottom of the bumper make a lip, and slowly build up from there. If you look down for my NNL S13 build, I started with a lip, then bent it to how i wanted the lip to look like. Then I slowly layered it up, one layer at a time. When building a bodykit, I feel that it is important to do it slowly, one step at a time. Not only does it make it hella strong, it also ensures that you get the look your after. I plan on making a tutorial on making my front kit, which was pretty involved. So when I post that up (hopefully soon) you can take the ideas and concepts of what I did and try to apply it to yours.

Re: Maybe A dumb question: Styrene Help

Here are some pics of what it looked like in the early stages (they go in order)

^^^^ Thats the lip I was talking about

^^^^ Slowly added layers to level everything off, then put strips coming out to get an offset lip

^^^^ How I did my vertical supports

^^^^ Sidewalls of the kit, and shaped the holes of the kit

^^^^ Puttied and extended a bit to fit the wheel well

^^^^ Sand smooth, prime, paint, and you got yourself your very own custom bodykit

Hope these help you, if you have any other questions let me know, I most likely have pictures of it

Re: Maybe A dumb question: Styrene Help

Thank you so much. That is exactly what I needed. I will probably do some surgery on the car this weekend then because this build is going to quick. I want to do some custom work and make my own bodykit. Thanks so much.

Re: Maybe A dumb question: Styrene Help

As you requested, pics of the rear and side in progress.

^^^^ Side skirt shot. Nothing special, piece of blasa glued and smooth to the body

I realize that the Integra rear end will most likely not fit on your model of choice, but this one lined up almost perfectely with mine.

^^^^ I started out by removing the rear "diffuser" I guess you could call it

^^^^ I then attatched it to the body, and grinded the bumper down so it would sit smooth.

^^^^ Top view of the previous step

^^^^ Next I added styrene for to extend to the wheel well

^^^^ I then made a template for the rear diffuser, this may take some time, but be patient with it

^^^^ Cut the diffuser out fro styrene and insert into the bumper, please note that I built up the bumper extensions to the wheel well, and that the rounded part is not from my template, that is a seperate piece.

^^^^ To finish off the diffuser I then rounded a rectangle of styrene to fit in the diffuser, and made a notch for the exhaust.

Then just make sure its all solid, putty, sand, paint and you have your very own custom rear end!

Once again this is a rough tutorial, I will have the final version perfected in more detail soon enough! If you ahve any questions dont hesitate to ask
