i dont know!

1988 brougham V8 305 4bbl. h-code 125k miles

new replacement carb
new water pump
new starter
tranny rebuilt 6 months ago along with a new torque converter
tune up 8 months ago(cap, rotor, wires, plugs, ignition coil)
new O2 Sensor

ok i took it to my shop that usually takes good care of my car and everything they also put on my new carb about 3 weeks ago, reset the computer, adjusted everything and what not. about a week later everytime i would start it it would idle VERY high so i took it back and they adjusted the fast idle cam.then the next day it still did it so i took it to autozone and one of the carb. specialists turned the choke about 3 cm. or somthing like that and it doesnt idle fast anymore unless its very cold outside but it idles fine when its warm. EVERYTIME i start it its like it doesnt want to stay runnin so i rev it up about 2 times WOT and it starts to idle fine. i took it to the shop and they ran codes and said that its either the carb or the camshaft.when it goes around 40-45MPH right after it switches into 4rth gear its like its not even accelerating or nothing it bounces and the lifters start tapping but it doesnt backfire.so i took it to the tranny place because i thought it was the TCC and he said its something in the ignition system. the check engine light comes on ONLY when im stopped at a light for more than 3 seconds or when im in drive stoppd and it doesnt go off until i turn the car off.ive checked all vaccum lines and all hoses and theres nothing wrong with them.
could it be the EGR(stock)?cat. converter(stock, looks rusty and makes a rattling noise when revving)?any help of solving this mystery would be appreciated.

Need a little more info. What are the trouble codes (ECM codes)?

Could be a number of things.

Re: i dont know!

Could it be a vaccum problem? maybe a fuel problem.

Time for a new mechanic.

You can obtain the code yourself by jumping (shorting) the last two pins on the ALDL connector, turning the ignition to the RUN position (but don't start the engine), then counting the flashes as well as the pauses. Ignore code 12- it's going to display on anyone who obtains codes with the service engine soon light. The way the codes work is this -

flashes

short pause

flashes

i.e. a flash - pause - flash flash means Code 12 - a flash flash flash pause flash flash flash flash is Code 34, etc.

Each trouble code will flash 3 times, beginning and ending with Code 12. If you see Code 12 flash 6 times, then there are no touble codes.

Re: i dont know!

if you have a computer problem for sure, just go buy a haynes repair manual for computers and trouble codes. it is only $15 and will answer a lot of your questions. i read it cover to cover just to try to understand how the whole system works.
