Noise comming from transmission

For the last couple of days, every morning when i start my car, I hear this noise that sounds like its comming from the Transmission. Its a scratching sound.. kinda sounds like static electricity. The noise completely goes away after like 5 minutes (once the car warms up). The noise only happens when i start the car from a cold start. On monday, I took it to the shop and they changed the Transmission fluid. I took the car back today and they looked at it, made sure They put the right fluid in and everthang. So i'ma have to leave my car there overnight so they can hear the noise for themselves. Can anyone help me out on this.?? This guy at work said it can possiblty be that my "Throwing Bearing" (somethang like that) in my Trans is worn.

Re: Noise comming from transmission

Usually a "throw out bearing" is more of a rattling and is more than when you first start your car. A system is a rattle or similar noise when you are driving around in low gear not going very fast. It could be a throw out bearing, but I don't know since it goes away.

Re: Noise comming from transmission

A throw out bearing would only make noise when the clutch was disengaged(pushing on the pedle) so you can pretty much rule that out.Chances are that you have a bad bearing inside the tranny, or at least one that is failing.

Re: Noise comming from transmission

Everythang worked fine till i took it to get a Transmission service done.. The fluid was bad... The shop changed the fluid, then the next day I hear the noise.

Re: Noise comming from transmission

Hmm, well it could be that the new fluid cleaned up all the old gunk that was stuck in a bearing and now it makes noises or its not the right fluid and thats the problem

Re: Noise comming from transmission

I have the same problem right now and the only thing different now is my built tranny and I put synchromesh in it, so the fluid is really thin and I'm wondering if thats what its from.

Does your whole car also have a rather annoying shake/vibration from this? When you push the clutch in does the noise go away then? Mine does and its bugging the piss out of me because everytime I try to put it in reverse it grinds like hell. I am gonna bleed the clutchline in the morning because when I had it all apart I found out there was barely any fluid in it from the last mechanic that worked on it. So I filled it and bled it and got a ton of air out of the lines. But, it has some air in the line again and I'm not sure how its getting in there and I don't wanna bleed it everyday...

Another thought could be that maybe either our master or slave cylinders are going bad?...

Well... I have to tell you but if the noise goes away when you disengage the clutch you have a bad input shaft bearing. And the only way air gets in the hydraulic system is a leak probably a bad slave possible a master

Damn it... Is that the one that the clutch disengagement lever pushes forward and backwards? If not, is it within the tranny and I'll have to take it to Shepherd again? Yeah, my slave cylinder is covered in fluid today so I'm certain its leaking there... Not to mention all the other shit that went wrong with it. You can read about it in my "shitty week" thread.

Re: Noise comming from transmission

The front bearing is inside the tranny and it supports the input shaft and it is only turning when your foot is off the clutch and it stops when you push the clutch so the noise would stop to.

Re: Noise comming from transmission

if you have any knowledge of a manual tranny you could do it yourself for $15 in parts. All you have to do is take off the front cover and its the bearing that goes around the input shaft. If you arent comfortable doing to however I wouldnt try it, but if you want to send it up this way I can do it for free

I feel comfortable in doing it... I mean, I've had the whole thing apart already so it doesn't scare me anymore. lol You are talking about the bearing that the disengagment lever slides on the input shaft, right?... I just wanna make sure we are talking about the same bearing here before I do this.

It still kinda sucks that I gotta take it all apart again for one stupid little bearing... It probably never has been replaced though and has seen about 105k miles...

Re: Noise comming from transmission

the bearing I'm talking about sits inbetween the input shaft and the case, its what the shaft rides on if that makes sense
